“Screenshot or It Didn’t Happen”

on

Screenshots, pictures that we regularly and therefore carelessly take, have become part of our daily lives as technology has evolved. As a result, apps like Snapchats that allow users to exchange pictures lasting only for a few seconds have became popular among the young generation. In his article “Screenshot or It Didn’t Happen,” Jacob Gaboury says that screenshots are “imperfect objects that can only capture a fraction of the deeply contextual frame… that might otherwise be lost or overlooked.” Likewise, screenshots are captured moments that we believe have certain meanings that are important for us to keep. For example, the picture you see in the bottom is a collection of screenshots that I stored before going to a nail salon. These pictures may simply look like random piles of nail designs, but if you take a closer look, there exists common theme and style that show my preferences and even to an extent my characteristics. These pictures may be just momentary, but they are another form of representation that we momentarily capture.
