Women’s Mobile Museum in Philadelphia

The Women’s Mobile Museum was done in collaboration with the Philadelphia Photo Arts Center, South African artist Zanele Muholi, and 10 Philadelphia artists who identify as women. I got to see a presentation from a few of the artists in one of my classes two years ago. I was really impressed by the photography, especially since most women were self-taught. One artist, Shasta Bady, did her study on public transportation in Philly. Her studies remind me of “Invisible Cities,” especially one I read that focuses on the connectedness (and lack thereof) of travelers in the city of Chloe (page 51). Muholi’s self-portraits are also really beautiful.
