Humans & Machines: A Love Story?

As I worked on the Desktop Portrait, I thought about how technology has come to dominate our work lives. We have replaced the physical work spaces cluttered with books and pens for sleek, efficient MacBook Pros — a rather simple decision one might say. Just us our work lives have been greatly impacted by technology, much of our personal lives have been as well. One example that came to mind was the movie “Her”. Although I haven’t watched the movie myself, the story goes along the lines of a man falling in love with his AI digital assistant in the not so distant future. It makes one think: once machines become capable of expressing and feeling deep and complex emotions like love and hatred, how do we differentiate humans and AIs? Will humans have any defining characteristics that will be fully our own in this new age of artificially intelligent machines?
